1984 MAN 15-168 4WD any good? was created by Erik
Hi, I am contemplating buying one of the above. It is low km. I am sure it will be good for local trips, however has anyone got any experience at cruising speeds on the highway? Any other comments are appreciated. I would occasionally want to do a road trip interstate to pick up useful things/cars/engines... I would put a HIAB on it.
Is the ride and cab too rough, too noisy? Is the top speed on the 4wd too low? Are there ways to increase it?
Cheers, Erik

I dunno much about them, the SEC in Victoria had heaps of them 4x4 and 6x6 dunno what happened to them all I guess mining type companies grabbed them
I seem to recall following them around Latrobe Valley and they got along ok
Parts these day may or may not be a problem the world is a lot smaller now and its fairly easy to bring bits in from overseas these days
I wonder if they shared diff parts with Deutz or Mercedes ???? I would expect a ZF transmission

Thanks. That's good to know. There are also parts on eBay in Europe.
I have a feeling I have seen something about a ZF box also...

there's one of these for sale in a yard on the Northern Highway opposite Praire Road between Rochester and Echuca in Victoria. I drove past it yesterday but the dust storm was too thick to take a photo.
