BEA, more information please, the photos are great, but does the engine turn over, or start even, can you load it onto another truck or does it require a crane or ramps and a winch and some idea of price would be good....

Also a photo of the interior too, and does it have wind up windows or push up??

Manmouth Up till about 53 they were 6 volts and the battery went under the floor D/side just inside the door but saying that a lot of Aussie one were changed to 12  volt and put on the chassis rail just behind the cab D/side.
From 53 onwards they changed from crash box to syncro gear box and they put a panel with 4 screws holding it in just below the pass /side door and was where 12 volt battery went.
You also tell the year by the chrome strips on the grille.Dave

The 39 models looked same as the ones from 45 onwards except they didn't have the 1/4 vent windows in the 39 .
England went war with Germany in 1939 and all cilvilan trucks production and they started to make trucks for the war effort plus they made helmets and tanks (Churchill ). Dave

Hi Guy's
Thanks for your replies and the info it's very interesting, I didn't realise an old truck could create such an interest until I discovered this forum.
I will put some photo"s up of the interior and where the battery goes hopefully tomorrow just have to get to Dads to to take them.
Dad said that it has wind up windows and a 6V battery. He thinks it is seized but was going to have a go at starting it.
We are asking $650 negotiable.
Stay tuned
Bea

Dave, have you opened a worm of cans??? Shocked

I will need to go have a look but my 1950 O series was a 6 volt, but the battery is through the passenger floor... I know its a 1950 because of the family wedding photo's etc...  but it has got push up side windows (I need to find one) and the drivers windscreen opens.  Is see BEA's dad's truck has a fixed sceen.

I would also guess the chrome on the grill is the same too......

I hope this is helpful Dave. Undecided Undecided

Sarge, sounds like yours is an imported model (common in NZ but not Aus). Most of the ones we see here have holden cabs. The easy way to tell (apart from badge on lower left side of cab) is that english built cabs have a rounded (radiused) profile on lower front of the doors whereas the holdens have a straight slash. Also the English windscreens are more vertical whereas the holden screens are raked back like a sedan car. The prewar Australian Bedford also used car like pressed steel cab by holden but used timber framing in the doors. Daves Beddy is real early so predates all that

Here are some more photo's.
Dave I looked near the battery for the year but couldn't find anything, the best I could find was the plate under the bonnet but this photo is not very clear sorry.

Hi Bea what Manmouth is saying about cab is right but I will try to explain what he talking about .
After the war all the cabs came out here CKD without a cab seats etc and so cabs were stamped out in either Sydney or Melbourne under license to Bedford by Holden hence thats why they are called a Holden body and the parent company was GM who owned Bedford and Holden.

Your 1948 "O"model is a 3-5 ton  Wheel base 157 inches long and has 28 HP motor what can see of the truck it sure looks a great buy and dad NOT too try and turn her over .

I'm very interested in her if you would like too pm with your contact number. Dave
