Basil,
Have just got hold of a single axle, 40', "strap" trailer.  I cannot find any id plates onit, however there are numbers stamped on the chassis above the skid plate.     Are there any distinguishing features to look for to identify it as a McGrath?
After acquiring it for a slab of Carlton Draught sight - unseen, it has a fair "bow" (camber) in it, full air brakes ( but no spring brakes) and one Marshall Leathlean mudflap!
Adrian.

If it is a negative camber n U wanna fix it
tiz an easy job
Just Cut/undo/release the ends of the strap
full it back into desired shape n re anchor the strap
GoodAzDun
U may have to flip trailer on its back

Thanks Swishy, will keep it in mind. At this stage I'm still trying to get the Atkinson sorted, hadn't thought too much about how to restore this trailer.   Thought the "camber" might give it the right effect for the period (early to mid '70's), but not 100% sure yet.

McGrath had their name on the hub caps. Here is a pic of the suspension assembly on a hi tensile chassis, but would be the same for single axle. Rego papers say it is 1975 but I think it is much older.
Chassis number could be found on right side above landing legs, but as yours is strap might be different and so above skid plate is consistent with this.
Caution, see technical page on Goldenoldiestruckclub.com and go to RTA bulletin on skid plate corrosion

Thanks mammoth, will do.  Will try to post some pics of the beast soon, the skid plate may well be an issue.

"same as single axle" - meant to say same as strap.   Adrian, what is your chassis number, as a Golden Oldies member is putting a similar one on the road (chassis no in same place)

I haven't got the trailer here at home at the moment, and as yet haven't written down any numbers (but will at some stage shortly).  There are no markings on the hubs to indicate McGrath like I expected, and it only uses a single spring "leaf" suspension.
I took a couple of photo's on my mobile and sent them to our email address, but I'll have to get my better half to "shrink" them and post them here for me. Sorry, I may be only 37 years of age, but I'm not that technologically advanced! (You might also have to make allowances for me being a Lousyville driver) Grin

Nothing wrong with your technology either if you have got the "better half" doing useful stuff with your truck pictures...

mine uses flamable liquids and matches.

Mammoth, the chassis number on the trailer is: 209I10051 62 (guessing the '62' is 1962) No markings on the hubs or the webbing of the 5 spoke spiders.   Can't find any other distinguishing markings on it anywhere else.
Cheers,
          Adrian.

From what I can make out, and if someone knows better let us know, there were no model numbers and from some point every chassis had  it's number cast as a large plate and screwed to the back. later the numbers were pressed. The number you have found is probably right as air over hydraulic went out of fashion early on.

G'Day mammoth,
The numbers I have mentioned previously (15/3 post) are 'pressed' into the chassis above the skid plate.    Have had a 'veteran' truckie look at it - a fellow Atkinson man - and he thinks maybe a Freighter.
