Just on the same subject (German buses/coaches) was it Firefly who were importing those custom built double decker highway coaches on their express runs? Don't recall the name/make, think it started with "K" and then a string of letters. Going back a little while, maybe late seventies/early eighties?

Sounds like - Kassbohrer Setra coaches. I think they had a benz v8 in them (or a knocked off version)

They were Setra Kassbohrers. Imported by Austral for Deluxe Coachlines. It was planned to assemble some in Brisbane from CKD kits, but Deluxe went under before it happened. Denning produced its own double Decker coach around the same time, which also eroded sales, and Deluxe took a lot of these. Then the market for interstate coach travel dried up due ti discount airfares.
