Back to the gearbox again, did you have to shop around for someone who could work on yours, or could any reputable trans mob do it. The synchro on second in my Inter is very bad and will need looking at soon.

Hi Merrick, did you do any good with Auto Surplus?
With the gearbox, my regular motor mechanic said he could but he did not have the time to devote to one component. I was recommended to a father and son business, who specialises in older car gearboxes - their business is called Older Car Gearboxes (thought this was a great name). To save me money, I got the gear box manual, took the gearbox out, cleaned it, made a stand and got in touch with a parts supplier up north (because mine did not have any parts for it). The farther who was in his seventy's, that fixed mine said any one that could read could fix it. I had no intentions of doing it myself - I think I now my limitations. Hope this helps.
Cheers Fill

Fill dont be to scared to have a crack most gear boxes I have worked on are fairly simple once you know how (I know that sounds stupid ) but if you have the book your almost there
Any gear box I have worked on only comes apart one way and so they cant really be stuffed up
I havent worked on many smaller gear boxes but truck tractor and dozer types of things

Looking at the exhaust bracket I can tell it wasnt done by a farmer we just would have got rid of the muffler altogether LOL

This is a great restoration thread and I admire your ingenuity and patience. My lady is very supportive, I'm allowed to paint 1/43 slot cars on the coffee table. But I very much doubt that truck parts would be allowed inside for painting :P

Yes Fil,
We all read your posts but do not always reply (unless we have something helpful or smartaxxx to say!)

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Hey Fill,
Thanks for the info. I didn't need to go to Autosurplus in the end, all parts were in pretty good nick apart from a carby kit (which I managed to get locally)
I know an older guy that does old car gearboxes too so when the time comes I'll try him first.

Cheers
