Hello All

Have a question re the photos below being the Hand Valve fitted to the Cline which has air over hydralic brakes.

Is this a early early type, should i up date it?

th@ control hand piece would work but make hard work try n to use a hand allowing for time deley on n off
the yanks have a factory preset trailer control valve th@ applies Truck 60% trailer 40%
U can get a way with A PBR CA300 (not sure if they still legal or not)
but U can dial up the ratio of truck/trailer

If it's working leave it alone.
The CA 300 will replace it no worries if it is crook.

Swishy, they aren't illegal, you can still buy reco ones.
It is just illegal to fit them to new trucks because the driver can adjust the truck/trailer brake ratio.
But anything that was fitted with them up to about 20 years ago is fine.

I would leave it alone if it is working. I can recall they do have advantages in being able to put the trailer brakes on to straighten everything out without touching the truck brakes if things are getting a bit sideways on a wet road. You might need a third hand sometimes trying to change down and apply the trailer brakes at the same time if you have not organised yourself properly. I don't know about you other blokes but I found using the handpiece as a part of normal braking with just the right amount of pull became second nature and required no active separate thought.

I personally think the CA300 is a great device, but it does require some additional input and some drivers unfortunately don't get that in affect, you have a brake bias valve that requires attention to suit the conditions and load best.

As Previously mentioned basically from ADR38 onwards the trailer bias became fixed and then with the introduction of ABS, it's done for you. I agree, that nothing gives better feel than a quality foot valve. A hand piece simply can't offer that, or be modulated as well.

It's simply a matter of what works best for the individual operator...

I'm pretty sure Protex offers them as a new component in their extensive retro range of brake products.
