Bedford started out as uprated English built Chevs in the early 30's, for example they had pressure fed oil whereas the Chevs had to wait until the late 50's for that. After the war the 214 ci engine was standard and carried on in the J series. Is as similar to a Chev as a Holden is to a Chev. The bigger Beddies got a 300ci motor in the 50's and diesel came later along with other larger engines.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Dave 64,
If you want "A horse of a different colour", I have a 1949? Thornycroft Nippy with four cylinder petrol. It is unusual in that it has the whole engine and gearbox forward of the front axle.
It needs a complete restoration.

Sounds interesting Morris. Can you put up a pic of your Thorny as doesn't sound like a Nippy (lighter version of Sturdy) but more like an Amazon (much bigger) but it was a diesel.
