Diodes are too new - fangled for Inter / Dodge. The front indicators are fed off one set of contacts in the indicator switch, the common of which is fed only by the flasher can.
When the indicators are off, the back ones are fed by the reverse light switch (or the brake light switch on earlier models). Whichever side is switched on, changes to the flasher can.
That is why there are so many wires going to the indicator switch.
If you don't have a wiring diagram, it takes patience to work out the pinout for the switch.
From memory, the NP435's have a reverse light switch, the T98's do not. (my experience, YMMV!)

Jarrod.
