I have never seen the Patterson river from above, so cannot comment on that one but regarding the main street of Dandenong, successive Councils have spent squillions of ratepayers dollars (I used to be one of the ratepayers) "Improving" the street. You know the thing:- one time they remove the parking to put in street trees then they remove the trees and put in different parking, a few years later they ripped up all the asphalt footpaths and replaced them with footpaths laid with concrete pavers and new trees. They put a barrier down the middle of the road and put in "service" roads for parking taking all the parking out of the main through-road and causing bottlenecks at access and exit points of the service roads at each end of every block. One year they closed off a nearby road and moved in dozens of mature palm trees. They paid for a competition to name the shopping plaza. The winning name was "Palm Plaza." A few years later, they ripped out all the palm trees and changed the name to "Dandenong Plaza."
It must be wonderful to have millions of dollars of other peoples money to splash.
