Do you know ???? was created by Mairjimmy
This vehicle is for sale but I will put it up here to see if you lot know it might be, I have been roaming about in SA and Tacho asked me to take some photos of it when and if I came across it, not easy to get a good photo when in a shed, trying to work out how to hide the name on back wheel to put the back wheel photo up. It has no gear box as such . The front axle in the photo doesn't belong to the truck

Well John D must have used a computer rubber geoffb because he is correct, 1924 Tilling Stevens

I have never heard of them, the engine drives a generator to drive the electric motor to drive the diff.

Tilling-Stevens was brought out by the Rootes group. The reason why Commer "Knocker" engines are called a TS3 is because they were designed by Tilling-Stevens, with 3 cylinders.

There was something similar partly restored in Cleveland or Beenleigh (?) a few years back. When I first saw the motor and generator I thought WTH? All the bigger, faster lifts used to run like that, but with a 3 phase motor driving the genny. I still service several of these in Brisbane. (all over 40 years old, now).
I think they would call that truck a "Hybrid" now. Everything old is new again.....

Here is a local TS3B of 1919, not a petrol electric though:

There should be an article on this truck in the next VTC.

Here's a bit more info on the electric drive. According to the current owner this truck was used by the MTT (Metropolitan Tramways Trust) in Adelaide and later sold to ETSA (Electricity Trust of SA), fitted with a hole borer for erection of power poles and ended up on Eyre Peninsula. The owner is selling it and is more concerned about it being restored than about big money for it. Mairjimmy Colin has seen it and talked to the owner, so he is your best contact for more details.
