LOL, no worries, Vic, you might have been a bit of collateral damage while ribbing Dave.

I love all post-war AECs (the rest aren't bad either) and had a bit to do with a 1968 Mandator (I think that was a Mk V) a mate owns in Perth. I readily admit to having a serious thing for Ergo-cabbed trucks and regularly correspond with Mike Houghton ver your way for a fix of Ergos (even Leyland ones!).

One of the AEC Mk V's I drove occasionally in the 60s, the other was a Mandator with the same cab. I was normally driving Atkis but really preferred the AECs. Just don't tell AtkiPete that.

Gday all

So.. the thread pirates hit again. :)
This is what I like about this forum.
You start a thread about Advertising and stuff and then a couple of carefully worded posts later.. whoaaaahhh, we're doing a 180 and we get onto Super Singles and Utes.

I dont know how your history went in Oz, but over here we had CDV utes going back Morris Minor, Austin A60, Mini, Marina, and Kimberley/Tasman all from the Leyland family. Vauxhall then dived in with the HA and then our oriental friends did what they usually do.. take a product and improve it and built from scratch the Toyota Hi-Lux.
Nobody could compete with this and all the others died out.
The Hi Lux and later Japanese Utes are not car derived but some sort of midway model between a Ute and a Truck.
Ford did not enter into this field for about 25 years after the Hi Lux, and launched a thing called a Bronco, which I think is probably a Mazda with a different name on it.
In recent years Oz has become the Ute capital of the world and introduced the V8 ute and now you even race them.

With regard to Super Singles, I think Andy knew what he was doing when he made his post :)

VH... The HHH AEC is definitely a Truck ! and I think the best AEC I have ever seen.

Cheers
RS :)

That AEC of Warren Harris is ok but what AEC that was owned by Ken Witworth and now owned by Bob Addison one i'm talking about is the one only 100Ton RoadTrain Prime Mover .

It used pull 4 trailers from Nth Qld to Wyndum in WA to the meat works at a top speed of 38mph it ran mainly at night .

This one of only one world still running around. Dave

Awesome, Vic.

Roland, I've got a tonne of 'mobile advertisement' photos, all black and white and, for some reason, mostly Albions, I've got some scanning to do tomorrow so will throw some of the better ones up here.

Dave, at Sandown last year I noticed the AEC had a nice dent on one of her front guards. I was hoping Ken didn't see it. Would have liked to have seen her off the trailer and pulling the trailer she was under. There's a couple others in Australia - one in Darwin and one down Geelong way if I remember Swishy's post on here correctly. I've also seen a pic of one in Turkey. Ken's old girl is still the only restored one as you say. Would love to see one next to a Buffalo.
