Brains trust , I dunno what it is

So? What seems to be the general consensus? I rather like the idea of something cobbled together to suit a purpose. Would be handy to know just what that engine is, though.

Just going through an old "Motors" Truck Repair Manual, printed 1945, covers some diesel as well as petrol engines and this is just a WAG, but the name Hall-Scott came to mind.
Trying to find a picture to compare it with and nothing really jumps out at you.
The other one is a Waukesha/Hessleman, but shows the opposite side. Maybe if we had a few snaps of closer up, or opposite side it may become clearer.
Whatever it is, an interesting old jigger. I rather like that broad square front, even if it is home made. Bit of a departure from the more common high narrow, sloping militay look. Like to know a bit more about it's origin.

I still can't find anything that looks like that. Someone must recognise the pump with external drive. Is it necessarily American?
(if a re-power) Shame I can't read the tag, it's just pixels.

Never thought in my wildest dreams This " What is it" would give the brains trust such a work out .
Just need the Rivet counters to positively ID the cab and we are Home free .

yesterday arvo i went for a drive..............took that eng pic............and was lucky enough to track down the
owner .....driver......and modifier....of said machine..
