Well definately english. Early 1950's or late 1940's

Lots of english trucks had that style from the side. such as Thornycroft, Foden and AEC especially.

But the front axle looks out of place. Looks very heavy duty for that style of truck.

The axle looks like AEC. Don't think original personally.

The shape of the quarter window and shape of door is strange. And the fuel tank definatly not in original location.

As a big shot in the dark I'm thinking it could have been an AEC maybe even a half cab bus that may have been modified extensively maybe made into a recovery truck?

Is that a drive shaft back to the front axle, or the exhaust pipe?

Allan,

Personally I think the front axle looks like an AEC driven axle. Say from a matador or militant. In which case I think that could be a drive shaft.

The only reason I didn't think the truck (or cab) was from one of these was the shape of the door frame and the quarter window. Just strange.

I reckon it is an AEC Militant or Matador with a part home made cab

The Militant is a very much bigger truck so is not one of them. It could be a Matador but it is a pretty poor picture with the pixles running together so not enough detail to confirm. The steering wheel looks too far raked back, can't see gear stick where it should be and there is a 2nd shaft next to the steering column. Mudguards also look wrong. The chassis looks like it has been flitched.
Regarding the cab, Hastings Deering did market the Matador with their cab but generally there was no such thing as a standard or common cab for the Matador in Australia.

this one is now at home.

secret location not too far away

That cab reminds me of Terry Burrowes' Vulcan.
