I dont care what anyone says there is nuffin better than a well tuned 6V-92 on a crisp still morning in the mountains.....and a close second, making a 6V-53 bark in the Burnley tunnel ! 8-)

Basil,

Let me guess which 6V53 that might have been: would that have been the one in ya R190?? BTW, leave the - out of the V-config model numbers - that denotes the inline engines! I'm getting soooo bloody confused about the models listed above!

If the - denotes inline, what's the V mean? Surely that would end the confusion? ;)

Andy,

Its as simple as if it aint got a V its an inline.
All models the first number denotes how many cylinders and the second number denotes cubic inch capacity of each cylinder eg
6V53 = V configured six cylinder of 318 cubic inch capacity, 5.2 liter in metric. :)

General Motors / Detroit Diesel made :

- is Inline
V is denotes obviously V configuration

51 Series - 2-51, 4-51
53 Series - 2-53, 3-53, 4-53, 6V53, 8V53, 12V-53
71 Series - 1-71, 2-71, 3-71, 4-71, 6-71, 6V-71, 8V-71, 12V-71,
16V-71, 24V-71, 32V-71
92 Series - 6V92, 8V92, 12V92, 16V92
110 Series - 6-110
149 Series - 8V149, 12V149, 16V149

These are all the basic core engines. There were many variations of most of them. Turbo, twin turbo, intercooled, DDEC etc
I have 412 different variations on my model list including counter rotating and twin power setups.

Thanks, Baz, sorry, it was a bit of a rhetorical question. The V being there denoted the configuration so dash or not, V gives it away, I reckon.

Still, learned something new today. Dash = inline. :)
