Thanks Detective, interesting looking trucks, those Fuso Hurricanes. I don't know if you had 2 stroke UDs in Australia or not.

This is a UD Nissan 6TW13 Jumbo, it would have a 2 stroke 6 cylinder UD63 motor putting out 250 horsepower.

The cabover is a model 6TWC13 Rhino with either the UD63 motor or the earlier UD62 motor rated at 236 horsepower.

g'day fageol .. if we got them Nissan's here, they were very few and far between....

....we had the 2 stroke UD engine out here (almost a copy of a GM) but can't really say they were original equipment in any of the Nissan trucks we have had....cheers

Both you fellas are pretty much on the money. It is a Hino-probably a KA300 model of the mid to late 1960s era. This would have a Hino DK10 motor putting out 195 horsepower. It's a single drive with a pusher axle, and yes, you're right werkhorse it is in New Zealand. By the way does anyone have any photos or specs of the Fuso Hurricane trucks, we didn't have those over here.-Hamish Petrie

I have a photo of a bonneted Fuso Hurricane (single drive, bogie strap trailer) taken at Westmead NSW circa early sixties. Unfortunately since I found out that any photos posted on photobucket become public domain, I am reluctant to post any unique truck photos that I took in my youth. If you wish to PM me with your email address I will send it to you.

There were two early Fusos sold in the Albury area in the mid 60s.Roadair had a cabover on interstate and Vic Tricky had a bonneted one on a superspreader.there was also one on interstate.Often saw it at the old Shell servo in Sims street Footscray.(think he was a mate of Deaffy Mayer who had the shop at the front of the old ABT yard)

With that 8V53 I bet you could hear old Grumpy coming from a wee way off.
