Hello there Detective, you're right on the first two, they are 2 stroke UD Nissans, the cabover is a 6TWC13 Rhino, and the one behind it is a 6TW13 Jumbo. The third truck isn't a Nissan though.-Hamish

...it's a stab in the dark but the third one is an MAN ...

...PS .. i believe that the UD moniker stands for ''Uniflow Diesel'' scavenging system, and was a peculiar feature of these earliest Japanese attempts to produce their own two stroke diesel engine ...even though the UD symbol carried through the entire range over time....

The last truck is a Tatra 138 but I have never seen a 4-axled one before - could be a local fitment. They could have added another axle quite easily, these had a central tobular chassis, the axle units were flanged into the chassis, which is how all Tatras to this day are built (see below). The smoke is more likely emitted by one of the 2 strokers, lol...

Where was this taken? NZ? I did not know there was Tatra import back then...

thank you Tatra...amazing info and a good call on the make in the picture...

...i think you might be surprised as to what has ventured to these antipodean shores,.... and a Tatra here or there, or a Zeligson working on Fraser Island, and even a big Deutz army style 6x6 crew cab Pluto? along with a Korean war veteran USAF Biederman residing in Melbourne, amongst many other obscure makes ...

...just shows the variety of manufacturers models that made their way here....cheers mate :) :)

Yes... I keep being amazed every time when I see these things. The best were MANs in the 1930s, when you would have not expected anything non-Comonwealth (and what is more, German).

Some ridiculous logging from the Czech Republic below... :) The 148 was the update of the 138.

A further challenge on the original photo is to name the state where the photo was taken.
My vote is for Victoria, based on the style of forest.
