Sterling

Original Sterling Trucks
The Sterling Truck Company was started by William Sternberg at the turn of the 20th century. Originally, he named the company after himself, but changed the name to Sterling in 1916 due to anti-German sentiment in the United States surrounding World War I. The company produced a variety of medium and heavy duty mixed-use trucks and served as a major auto producer during World War II

Wouldn't put Eli Olds' Ransom on it, but I definitely (or kinda close to a definite) like grandad's last choice of Reo, about 1929 I'd say.

The REO Motor Car Company was a Lansing, Michigan-based company that produced automobiles and trucks from 1905 to 1975. At one point the company also manufactured buses on its truck platforms.
Ransom E. Olds was an entrepreneur who founded multiple companies in the automobile industry. In 1897 Olds founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company (later, as Oldsmobile, to become a part of General Motors). In 1905 Olds left Oldsmobile and established a new company, REO Motor Car Company, in Lansing, Michigan. Olds had 52 percent of the stock and the titles of president and general manager
