Searching old posts was created by wgipps
Hi
Looking for information on Inter D series trucks using this forums search function.
You can only search by week/month/3month/year/all to a maximum of 15 entries.
This makes it a little difficult to research older topics. I did a search tonight on inters, it returned 15 results with the oldest being from about June 2009.
How do i search back further than that OR start my search again FROM that?
Thanks
Glenn

Yes, that's how it works, Glenn. About all I can suggest is to be quite specific with your keywords.

Did you select the box that says "one result per thread"? I think this picks up a thread with your keywords in it and then moves to the next thread rather than looking deeper into the posts themselves. In other words, the 15 results could get as far as one thread if that thread mentions 'inter' 15 times. From what you've said, you've got passed that.

Thanks AW.
Like probably most members here, Im on another forum as well. The Model T forum in the US - it has a really good search feature not dissimiliar to this one, but it is not restrictive to 15 results or 1 year - you can pull up hundreds of old posts and go through them at your leisure.
My suggestion is that there is usually so much information held in these forums, that the ability to dig around in the old posts and root out that little gem you are looking for is one of the key benefits of joining these sorts of sites. This is especially true for us newbies.
I am sure that if you put out a call to all users of this forum to pony up a couple of dollars each for a site upgrade, you would cover the costs (if any - as Swishy suggests it may even be free).
I do understand that you probably maintain this site as a volunteer - and we users get very demanding on your time and resources with endless requests toward the perfect site, but the ability to find old info without bringing up the past and clogging up the new info is - i fell - reasonably important.
Thanks again AW
Glenn

G'day Glenn

I'm a mod on a couple of other forums as well and these have extensive search functions. I totally agree with the need to increase the search function on here. I imagine it is the way it is because the forum was set up fairly basically to see what interest there would be. I think it is fair to say it has exceeded everyone's wildest dreams.

I will wait for Bparo's and JBlair's advice on a future upgrade as they are the IT gurus. I wouldn't know where to start with something like that!
