Thanks Paul, I was just investigating the April Aire post for that reason. The three users who have posted these messages have been banned and the messages deleted. I usually only pick up on the spammers when/if they post as I am unable to screen new members before they are allowed to post.

I don't read every thread at present but between the three of us we usually have it covered.

hi all, being the relative newbie to posting how do the spammers effect us? and or me? i know what spam in the can is and thats pretty scary,its sounds like the stuff my nerd cleans out of my pc when it gets infected etc,how do we detect spam,and whats happens if it gets on us? will i know if im soaking in it?.........cribbytow

heres another one (daifan) also i note that when a spammer is deleted, the grand total of members remains the same. is there a way to change the total when they are deleted? these are big Q's that need to be answered!!! lol

Perhaps we should scrutinize future applicants.

We currently have an automatic approval process for new members. In that they have to apply and wait for an automatic email giving them the details on how to log on etc.

Update:- Just checked after the last update the approval process was changed during the update and I missed the change. The email approval process has been put back in place.

This was done so that an admin had to log on once a day and approve people. The problem is how do we work out who is ligit?

As for the total number of posts etc. The stats of the forum are added to when posts are made. But don't always update when removed. I will have to regenerate the stats in the back end.

I am admin on another forum and check new members every day. I use several spam check sites so it can be done easily whenever I see new members.

Whoever comes across as a spammer or suspect will be deleted.
