Resize Photo's - Free with MS-Windows Paint

Hi,

On the topic of re-sizeing photographs.

My camera, that I have set to take a 3 megapixel images, gives me a natural 2480 X 1538 mp image size -
which is larger than the 800x600 HCVC page.
So, after going through all the time and effort of getting by beautiful photograph on the Forum,
it is a little bit less than a fully satisfying experience to plop a giant oversize image into the guts of my post.

I once went to all the effort and bother of downloading a photo manipulation programme
only to be burdened with yet another series of self imposed hassle and "computer stuff".

Then, one day, quite by accident, I discovered that in Windows 7, if I;

1. Left Click the image
2. Select "Edit"

It would open the image in MS-Paint.

From there, if you click on
3. "Resize"
4. "Pixels"
5. "Maintain Aspect Ratio"

and then

6. enter 800 in the "Horizontal" field ("Vertical" will become 600).
7. Then click "OK" down at the bottom.

After that, you can do a

8. "Save As" (new name) or OVERWRITE the original photo with the new dimensions - I will leave you to ponder the wisdom of that.

With this new image, you can then upload the resized Image to i.e. Photobucket, do all that stuff and bring its URL back to the Forum, do all that HCVC stuff and go from this, (the original, unresized photo)

and turn it into this;

Ah, that's a bit better

For Vertical (sideways) Pictures,

I've decided that 500 horizontal is pretty all right

Resizing also reduces the KB size ("volume") of the photo from 840KB to something like 280KB which has got to be kinder to both the load on the HCVC Server
and help with the download speed for the brothers and sisters on the Forum that don't have unlimited high speed broadband or
slow and expensive pre-paid Wi-Fi internet connections.

Disclaimer: The above procedures and numbers are NOT guaranteed universal works every time for every user instructions [edit; I'm tweaking the exact numbers already]. They work for me and Hey, the main point is that I didn't know I could use Paint like that (free for nothing, I had it on the computer all along and it cost me nothing to use).

Cheers,

-b

P.S. wutz thu fotoz uv? Here's two clues - I betcha Rodders knows and A64 114. ;D

eye'm a Gr8 Beleever in MSPaint ......... the kids program

Funny look truck U pictured there... wiff lots gear levers n duel control

LOL

I find it best to take the best quality pix n use th@ pix as a master copy n any alterations save with a slightly different file name
I normally put an "a" @ the end of the name
eg: image000069.jpg = mastercopy
image000069a.jpg = altered 1st time
image000069b.jpg = altered 2nd time etc
Re: altering pic size
"2048x1638"
calculator cums in handy here
width = 2048
desired width = 800
800 divided by 2048 =0.390625 multiplied by 100 (=%) = 39.0625%
Therefor: the amount of reduced horizontal n vertical % = 39%
so a pic of 2048 pixels wide reduced to a vertical n Horizontal of 39% = a pic of 799 pixels wide

have heard U jist email the pic 2 u'reself n it will B auto matikly scaled down

Hi,

Nope, just checked.
My Windows 7 just has Edit (bidstbc).

I'm already changing my 800 horizontal to 700 though.

Edit: 700 to get a better Vertical dimension.

When you upload and save pics to photo-bucket it automatically resizes the pic's for you.

Windows 7 had some great features, unlike 8. :(
