Looking for posts after "excommunication"

Hi All,

First off, this is not to be construed as any sort of criticism of the moderators/site, but I along with a few others were temporarily unable to access the site during the recent technical hiccups encountered.

The only way I could rejoin, was to accept aslightly altered 'call sign', which although no big deal, seems to have lost all my previous posts.
Ordinarily, this wouldn't worry me unduly, EXCEPT, there was quite a bit of extremely helpful answers posted to technical questions I had asked over some period of time.

I am not the most literate person on this site when it comes to computers, but have worked out that SOMETIMES it is easier to "Google" a post heading , (IF you can remember it or some of the key words), rather than use the sites own search panel.

Is there a simple way to transfer some of your old posts which were under the previous name? I think that they must still be lurking somewhere in the bowels of the HCVC, or the ones that do show up on the Google search are in Googles archives?.
Cheers, Dave_64 (formerly Dave 64)

Dave, In a word No.. :'(

The search function has never been the best.. :-[
As you say the easiest way to find an old thread is the do a Google search with the Letters HCVC included in your search. this will find old Threads.
But unfortunately I don't know of any way to search for individual Posts by someone who is classified as an "ex member"

The recent Forum crash whilst It rendered certain members as "ex" but when you try & join them back up using the same username, It kept telling us the that member still existed. hence the reason for your username being a little different.
However I have only recently figured out how to delete the ghost profiles of the people affected by the Crash. Which enables you to use your previous Username, Tacho, & Mairjimmy so far are the only ones (I think) who have been able to re join using their Old screen name.
Anyone else who wants their old name back let us Know, & we'll get onto It.

Cut and paste it to your search engine, it'll bring up quiet a few of your posts.

dno,
tried that just typing my name into Google with both the original name as well as the new one, seems to give me access. How do you download and/or save it though? Or does it always remain the property of HCVC?

Don't want every post and answer I have ever made, but would like to have on hand a few technical questions that blokes were good enough to furnish.

Just remember I am a buffoon when it comes to computers, couldn't even work out how to cut and paste and then put it in a browser?

What happened to the good ol' days when you went down the library, got them to get you a workshop manual and then if you asked nicely, they'd photostat it?
Technology? Bah! Humbug! Leave me out of it! I have to get my 10 y.o. grand-daughter to teach me how to use an Android phone.

I'm hearing ya re the techo stuff. lol

The best spot I've found to keep stuff safe is my email account, I save to a named folder or the default drafts folder. To make a folder in a hotmail account you just click "new" on the left side panel, type the name of the new folder and your done. If or when you find something you want to keep. Left click and hold down the mouse and blue highlight the text then right click choose copy, then open the folder in your email account then click on the text panel making live then left click and paste it into the folder.

As long as your email provider is around so should your saved doco's.

When you search/google for Dave 64 make sure you add the ex member.

Hope that helps.

OK,

Did as you blokes suggested, found a short post, highlighted it and then "copied" and "pasted" it into a new folder in my Outlook mail email account.

Have tried to then transfer from that email flolder by the copy and paste buttons, into a desktop folder, but doesn't seem to work. can highlight and copy, but when I try and paste it, won't even light up the paste option??

Obviously doing something wrong,

Dave

I don't save mine to the computer's hard drive via a new file, as if the computers sh!ts it' self there lost. Has happened to me once before.
You may have to right click and use the share selection option to save to a file on the puter or memory stick.
