Where to put 'em

Naturally, you can't just leave your pictures on your computer and expect everyonr in internet-land to be able to see them. For a start, you'd need to allow everyone (including Harry Hacker) access to your hard drive and anyway, they wouldn't be able to see them when you switched it off ;)

So they need to be posted to a web server somewhere.
Most folks will only have a limited amount of "home page" space, if anything. And that fills up pretty quickly.

The answer is to use online picture repositories / albums.
Such as photobucket.com/

Making it appear in the forum is
Dead easy, really.

First work out the address (URL) of your image. That is, where on the internet it lives.
You can do that either by:

Right-clicking the image and viewing its properties, then copying the bit that says "Address (URL)" (or if you're using Firefox, just "copy image location")

Or if you're using an online album

www.flickr.com/photos/40391971@N00/149177100/?edited=1 is a link to the photo on flickr where I am known as bparo2003, if you wish to see the private photos contact me (they have a 'family & friends only' area where I post most of my pictures)

and
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/55/149177100_bc532a2e45.jpg?v=0

should be the same photo

the first is
Code:
[url]http://www.flickr.com/photos/40391971@N00/149177100/?edited=1[/url]

and the 2nd is
Code:
[img] http://farm1.static.flickr.com/55/149177100_bc532a2e45.jpg?v=0[/img]

when I tried
Code:
[img] http://www.flickr.com/photos/40391971@N00/149177100/?edited=1[/img]

it didn't work. I think this is the problem that people are likely to have the
Code:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/40391971@N00/149177100/?edited=1
is taken from the address line of the browser while
Code:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/55/149177100_bc532a2e45.jpg?v=0
which is what is needed to be used is is obtained by:

1)right clicking the mouse on the picture.

If you are using internet explorer (as most people will be)
2) select the properties option
3) highlight the address tab then right click and copy it
4) save this in your code beween the
Code:
[image] and [/image]

or if you are using Mozilla
2) select copy location
3) save this in your code beween the
Code:
[image] and [/image]

The photo will not be visble until you press either Preview, Post or Save buttons.

I hope this helps, if you need any clarification just ask

Having just helped the pres with his photo there is an easier way for those with a photobucket.com account.

Under the picture there is a label IMG Code with a box beside it.

1) highlight everything in that box with your mouse, right click and select copy.

2) Move to the post you wish to put the photo in (either as a new post or to modify an existing one)

3) right-click the mouse and select paste.

4) The writing you selected in 1) should now appear in the post.

Press preview, save or Post and the photo should appear.

Any problems send me a private message (also called a PM) or call me and if I am home I will help you

I certainly found that features on photobucket very easy.

Suggestion however to ensure that you select everything in that box. Just fixed Russ's post as it was missing the actual filename.

Found that neeeded to right click in the img box then select all. This made sure that it took the entire string.

The other thing to remember is to reduce the size of the image to ensure fast loading on the internet. As Russ's image is pretty large. But on the other hand in this case it looks great.

Actually thank Deadly - he showed it to me and wanted me to put the same thing here. Not having the hours it would take to recreate them I just put in a link. So credit where credit is due
