Bedford V8 conversion. was created by Rockcrusher
Hi everyone, first time for everything so here goes.
I'm looking for a v8 conversion kit for a Bedford j series, most probably for a holden. Do I use the Beddy's 4 speed or would I be better off with another option? The truck is used for pulling a car trailer and usually not in much of a hurry! Anything will be better than the 214 c.i.
Besides, a weekend away with the toys occasionally is be better than dirty nappies! Diesel Mechanic by trade and am equipped to accomplish most fab jobs. Any leads would be fantastic, thanks .

I was at a tyre place about 18 months ago and there was a poofy candy apple red tarted up J model Bedford getting flash tyres put on it. Talked to the owner and he said he put in a Holden HZ? V8 with auto box.
He said two of them did the whole thing in one weekend and the only problem was having to get extractors made to miss something (probably steering box) and tail shaft shortened. Appeared very happy with the way it went.

Give either Castlemaine Rod Shop or ACW Bedford a call as both have V8 conversion kits.

Typed to craig at A.C.W, as not much happens in verse these days, and what a wealth of knowledge he is! Seems i'm in need of a bellhousing from a 250 or 292 Mexican Chevrolet six. This will allow me to use a small block Chev engine which I have collecting dust, as they are the turbo hydramatic bolt pattern. Down the track we could possibly change to a 6.2 or 6.5 chev diesel although a quick search on ebay usa and I will be saving some dollars for a while yet. Plus obviously a chat with an engineer I guess as well.
I wanted to thank you guys for your advice, what a great source of info this show is!
Anyway, if any one has heard of a Mexican straight six bellhousing or possibly even an engine/housing/clutch (probably even better) give us a yell and i'll chase them up. Thanks again, Dave.

Wow, think I might be a lucky boy then!!
Reckon the Bedford J2 that I wrecked (sorry) in Adelaide has one of these ---- 6 cyl Chev engine? bolted straight up to a Bedford g/box
Hope this is this "mexican engine/bellhousing that is required for this conversion as I am contemplating doing to my J1 Beddie
Will watch this thread with interest --- what are your plans to get the thing to stop???
Bad news is, that it's not for sale
Cheers Brian O

Castlemaine rod shop bellhousing and engine mount kit approx. $860. Probably not a bad price considering all that would be involved, clutch needs to be a Beddy unit not a chev 10.5 or 11". This bellhousing mates both Chevrolet (turbo hydramatic) and holden (traumatic) bolt patterns so you could use either the chev or holden engines. SandB - 'Bedford' and 'stop' in the same sentence?
