Wanted, starter motor.. (it's a long shot) was created by prodrive
Gday guys,
I'm posting this as a favour to a mate- he has a boat with a Perkins 4103 in it, and needs a starter, or even just an armature. he can buy all the other parts, bushes etc, but his armature is stuffed, and he can't find one anywhere...
Now this is a pretty old starter motor, it's the old inertia type, and apparantly it is off something like a MK3 Zephyr, as well as a few other pommy cars.
So as you blokes will have all sorts of old junk lying around under your benches, and in those cars out the back, I thought it was worth posting a photo and a description.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Richard
His description- Lucas Part No. 26163. Inertia-type, 13-tooth, 2-bolt (centres at 145mm apart), 92mm flange. Older Perkins 4108, also earlier Bedford diesel, etc

Looks a lot like a Hillman Hunter starter. I have a couple of those.
Wouldn't have thought one would be powerful enough for a diesel, though.
Jarrod.

I just had a look down the shed, and it's a bit bigger than a starter off a grey Fergy, which i thought might be close.
All i can suggest, is to contact "The Rock Tractor Service" in NSW. They specialise in Perkins and have a lot of experience. I have not dealt with them personally, but have friends who have and were very pleased with their service.
Googling "The Rock Tractor Service" should find their details.
Brett.

I suspect his motor is a 4-99,very early......all the later motors 4-107 and 4-108..(the difference is wet vs dry sleeve) had a three bolt flange, and while they used a Lucas M45G starter,a Delco off a mid size petrol motor would work....ie White ........and I used to fit these......however ,I suggest rather than chasing worn out crap, that you look into a little geared highspeed starter..for around $300 these are a far better way to go........incidentally,a bendix gear starter as shown will chop out the ring gear ,and I suggest you inspect the ring gear before fitting another starter............the ring gear can often be reversed on the flywheel if the lead- in is chewed up...might need a bevel ,which can be done with an angle grinder in a pinch.
