Hi Sarge.
Yes, the material is deisgned for acoustic benefit and not thermal protection, but the advice i get from our guys is that t the material would handle that environment.
Your advice about the glue is a good one, high tmp is not good for most standard glues, but i wouldnt have thought we would be talking too higher temperatures.. There are some high temp glues available, but the silicone is a good alternative. Otherwise we have glue for adhering to substrates good to 1260c.
i'm lining the cab at the moment and will see what difference it makes.
Cheers Bono.

With noise deadening you first have to work out what type of noise you are dealing with, transmitted or airborne :ie turbo whistle is airborne, road noise is transmitted.
At work with our boats the trick with noise deadening is mass. If you create a mass layer between the source of noise and where you want the reduction in noise you will get the best benefit.
When your half way up a hill and the turbo has a whistle up and you wind the window down turbo whistle gets louder yeh

Bono would be the resident expert on thermal lagging.
Woven ceramic cloth tape works good for the sort of things we are messing about with (old trucks ). Pretty cheap to.

Spot on Barry,
Ceramic tape is good to about 1260c. Overkill for exhaust, but product from China has made it a viable option. Usually available upto 75mm thick x 30 mtr but 50mm is the norm. An even cheaper opton is figreglass tape. Good to about 550C. Alot cheaper and suits most exhaust applications.
Just to add there are other typres of materials that may suit this or similar appalications. Blankets have have thermal and some acoustice benefits. They can be foil faced to shield against oil dirt etc.
For tricky bends and alike, there are felts that can be molded around pipes and connections. They can be pressed around a pipe for example. Once it dries it stays fixed and is pretty good against mechanical damage.
Wavebar materials for acoustiics are amazing. A mate in the trade takes a fairly big speaker to trade shows. Abox cover lined with this stuff kills most of the noise it puts out. Greta stuff, but also very pricey. I "think i can get my hands on some if some are interested.
Cheers BOno
