Hi,
Well I had the water pump rebuilt by JDM Industries and all I can say is $300 very very well spent, they replaced the impellor, new bearings, sand blasted, and even sent an OEM gasket kit, in the original 1950's box, which is now in my collection.
Anyway I refitted the pump, new hoses, new fan belt and everything sealed up nice and tight, no leaks at all, but on a test run, probably 5 km at 60kmh, I started to get coolant coming into the cab, and after I stopped I noticed coolant p*&&ing out around the radiator cap area, but not out of the radiator cap itself, but from behind.
Now trying to figure out the problem, could it be a leaking overflow container? could it be anything else in the system, a blockage? Anyone one out there experienced this? Any suggestions.
SO disappointing, thought I had my buddy back.
cheers

Maybe the Problem is with the Gasket between the top of the Cap and the Container, not the one on the springloaded Bit, not knowing the Configuration of your Setup it is difficult to be sure. Is the Overflow Canister pressurised ?

Hi Hank,
I suspect a circulation problem here, blocked radiator or the like. If the radiator history of good coolant etc is not known, or rusty water when the pump was done, I would inspect the flow tubes, eg, a tank removed & flow test the core. My past experience in situations similiar to yours has found radiators 80% blocked, causing burst hoses & eventual head gasket problems. Simple pressure test of the cap & system is basic checks, more thorough checks & diagnosis is required if the radiator is ok. By this I mean, spark plugs out, installing a fitting into each plug hole & pressurizing the cyl!s one by one at top dead centre & watching the coolant in the radiator for air bubbles to check for any cyl leakage. More info on this process by a pm if required.
I have a supplier with an aluminium powder from the USA that will seal minor defects & cracks, & will almost gaurantee to seal o rings on liners etc.
