Brambles seems to be a forgotten name in the transport industry. They have gone on to other interests nowadays, but in the 50s 60s and 70s had a lot of diversified transport interests long distance ,heavy haulage, and tanker divisions,as well as cranes and other large equipment. They also had other companies under other names. Who remembers them or had dealings with them as a subbie or worked for them?????

G`Day Gentlemen

I Subbied to Brambles on Footscray road Melbourne on and off in the early 70`s carting general back to Perth 67 cents a kilo [$67 a ton] fill your tanks at their Price
[compulsory] and they supplied pre stamped telegrams to send one every day on the three day trip.Payment was regular and loading and unloading was fairly organised.
They did have a bad habit of repairing Pallets all over the yard and it was nessesary to check tyres for nails before you left for the west

As an afterthought, I sometimes had tea on a Monday night with another subbie from Woolongong area Named Les Ralph, he bought one of the Light blue Bedford badged Bogie drive Jap prime movers[Isuzu???], it was cheap at the time just over $20 K where I paid nearly 25k for my single drive lazy Volvo 86 a year before.
Anybody know if Les is still around I believe he also had a stock truck with a driver on it also.

Old Bob ,you must have been there about the same time as I was. John Pincott used to be the loading manager, we used to load for Brisbane most of the time.Do you remember Graham Goodwin had a Deutz always ran to the west. How did enjoy the Haulin' The Hume, you were a long way from home?

Slightly off topic, but brings back memories of the Ken Maynard cartoons in the "Australasian Post" magazine in the 70s & 80s ? Many of these featured trucks with huge headlights from Brumbles Transport. Brambles Long Distance trucks must have been common to inspire these cartoons and I don't suppose they minded the free publicity. First thing I looked for when looking at this magazine.

slightly of the subject Brambles had a lot of euipment in BHP Newcastle. carted sculls out of there, some of the loader drivers hated single axle tippers because one scoop of the loader bucket filled a bogie axle tipper and they just tipped it in a single axle tipper anyway, they got a shock when they it the weightbridge if they made it that far. one funny sight was when a driver told the loaderdriver off because according to him there wasnt 8tons on is truck so he put more on the driver spent quite a few hours digging is truck after that BEWARE OF LOADER DRIVERS ha ha PETER :)
