This date coding also applies to windows with the engraving term "Armourplate - Saftey Glass" which appears on some 50's/60's vehicles.
You need to check all windows as sometimes a windscreen gets broken & is replaced later in life which then doesn't match the others!
cheers
Pierre

It just occurred to me to check my Humber Super Snipe, that is an early 50s model:
Dot over the I in TRIPLEX, and dot under the U of TOUGHENED
1953 I can live with, but the I ?
At least this blows my earlier assumption, as it definitely isn't a 1933 Humber!!!
Interestingly four of the other windows had ARMOURPLATE like scratcha's with dots over the O or U, a dot dead centre and a dot under the F or E
Analysis anyone . . .

It's first month 1959 glass, which could mean middle of that year build .....The one piece windscreen dictates that it's not to be confused with a 1949 build.

...Late edit .. are we looking at Commer or Bedford glass right now ?

We'll take all the info we can on both/either.
Great knowledge to have for a lot of us who weren't even aware of it.

Interesting info grandad, thanks for that. 2nd thing I've learned today!
PDU, if anyone went out to check their window they are an anorak, not that there's anything wrong with that!

PDU. Hmmmm.... dot over the'I' in Triplex, does sort of throw a cloud over earlier posting re I.D.ing the glass?? 'U' under toughened would indicate a '3' ??
As to the rest of your question, sorry, can't help, but you can bet your life someone will come up with a solution.
Seems like I'm not the only one to go out in the middle of the night with a torch and magnifying glass!
Dave.
P.S. What's an anorak? other than a snow jacket? I'll plead guilty!

I've looked at various forums and postings and all are consistent about years and quarters for TRIPLEX glass (Pilkingtons or whatever). So I would say that is pretty definitive and why my Humber has a dot over the I, and a dot dead centre, can remain a mystery so far as I'm concerned.
