Talking to a friend of mine who is ex Cummins South Australia, I believe that Cummins had all sorts of trouble, ie. no hope, of meeting emissions laws, (using the highly technical Celesco meter of course), with 903's at 320HP and hence many were plated at 295, but actually screwed out to 320+. An era that we will never see again, where mechanics could make a difference to an engine before the advent of electronic engine management and the accompanying laptop.
He also tells of a very special 555 they built for a speed trial in a boat that was rated to 4500RPM. I would love to have seen and heard that.

At the end of the day 903s were a great motor the Louis a great truck the inters were all right .
I didn't mine working on all of the gear back then it came down to how smooth a driver you where and how you treated the equipment. No good leaving late and bagging the crapp out of your truck all the way down the highway.

Just a couple of questions from someone who's never driven a 903 Cummins, how did they perform compared to an 8V71 and the NTC Cummins equivalent power ratings?
