The temperature where I live in the cooler, Southern part of Australia is forecast to be 22 degrees Celcius/Centigrade today and the forecast for the centre of Australia is 40 degrees. Australia is at the start of the summer season.

Two days ago, we had 40 degrees here. We have out of control fires in hundreds of thousands of hectares in the southern and eastern parts of Australia, due mostly to the heat and to lightning strikes. Many people have died trying to save their homes and several volunteer fire fighters have died doing their unpaid work. We call the fires Bush Fires, the Americans call them Wild Fires. I hope you do not have them in your Country.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!
