At Clarendon Classic truck show last year Paddy Ward from Dubbo displayed his rebuilt Ford W1000 which according to the photographs showing the restoration, it was originally a slim line cab, but during the rebuild the cab had been extended, I couldn't find anyone to confirm that this is the same truck that I photographed years earlier. Maybe someone nows the history of Paddy's Ford

Here is 2 more photos taken the same day.xspanrman wrote: I photographed the Ford W 1000 in 1971 at Heggie's Bellambi yard. I believe it was not owned by Heggie's but contracted to move a Bucyrus shovel to Bega. Heggie's attempt to diversify, they started another company called CANDIG P/L. to mine sand? at Bega and then process it at Bellambi in a shed leased to a man who unfortunately died before the processing plant was finished. I worked for Heggie,s for 7 years and never saw or heard any mention of this rare Ford again.

She scrubbed up well, the Ford! Anyone got any spec's on it? Engine, trans etc?
What about the rough diamond on the back? That'd be a labour of love.

Ray, (xspannerman) I'm fairly certain the remains mentioned earlier this Thread at Conjola was what was left of the Heggies Truck. & I'm led to believe has since gone to Scrap.
Paddy's truck is Cummins powered, & was Discovered in Western N.S.W.
The Sleeper cab currently fitted to It was brought in from the U.S.A. as the original Slim line Cab was beyond repair..

I stand to be corrected but I think that Cecil Venables of Cooma NSW operated one of these Fords around the very late '60s & into the '70s. He was mainly involved with live stock transport. The truck was red, as were all of his vehicles, & single drive. It could of replaced an AEC Ergo? single drive purchased new in the mid 60s?. He mainly used Internationals (AB182s? Petrol V8s) in the "60s.
Someone from that area might know more. Cecil passed away about 10 or more years ago & his son Ted about 8-9 years back.

Just took a mate of mine by the name of Mick Hayden down to Pambula today to pick up an old bogie float on my flat top when i mentioned to him that there was an article in the latest vintage trucks mag about a Ford W1000. The article was not in the mag but here on this forum. Anyway he said that he drove the Venables truck from new. It was mainly white but had some red from memory. It was bogie drive with 871 & 15 speed R/R & was quick for back then. He took down to Sydney a stuffed Roadstar & bought back the Ford. The Roadstar had replaced a Layland. The truck had also done some timber work out of the Badger but mostly did stock work.
Venables sold the truck to Jamie Gardener.
The last time Mick saw the truck he was catching it heading toward Nimmitabel blowing a hell of a lot of black smoke.
Last he heard of it it was down the coast with a tipper body on it.
