...can't be 100% on this, but there is a good chance the tank and trailer (or very similar) on the Mayne Nick Atkinson ended up on an Inter R 190/200 with a Buda diesel ??

....Goodmorning Overnite, what a 'treasure trove'of transport history this continues to be...These pics I'm sure will be bringing back many memories for a lot of blokes...(good & bad)...You would no doubt be re-living some great times you had with your family on these adventureous roadtrips ...Yet again you have displayed tremendous photographic skill as a youngster taking that pic at Calga Roadhouse, with a 'sodapop' in one hand & an 'icecream' in the other... ;D. For those that don't know, Calga was where the "F3'expressway eventually came to an end nth bnd from its starting point at Berowra. At this point you could follow the Pacific Hwy down over the old Mooney Ck bridge to Gosford or turn up Peats Ridge Rd to Peats Ridge & then on Somersby,Ourimbah,Wyong... It was a busy little village in those times with 3 servos, general store post office etc...suspect your pic shows shop L/H/S sth bnd....with Pacific Hwy in b/ground winding toward Mt.White...? This route nth bnd from Hornsby has some interesting highway history associated with it. Building of F3,Hawksbury River etc. Infact the states first section of divided 'dual road'was a section on the old rd between very top of 'Jolls' & Mt.White...(still there but narrowed down from 2 lanes both ways to one lane both ways) I believe Kariong Hill had among the first 'sign posted' designated passing lanes, toll booths at Hawkesbury River later moved to Berowra & checking station/weighbridge built... And yes as you say dangerous/hazardous sections of road...(to this day). Love the "front seat action" pic of the "Benz"....Cheers & thanks for taking us all along for "the ride".... ;)

Giddy and others. Glad you are enjoying them, thanks. When I get home I'll try to find the photo on my old phone of the existing servo ( now vacant) at Calga. Can't say I remember the toll booths on the Hawkesbury river bridge, only Berowra, ( too young I guess ), I do remember my dad telling me about the line up for hours and hours, for the punt, before the bridge was built, when we used to go to Gorokan for annual holidays.

Giddy, your geographical location for the Calga roadhouse is, (was) correct. I found the photo of what I thought was an old servo at Calga, But after having a better look ,it obviously wasn't a servo, probably a General store or Community hall. There is some very faded large writing above the doors and windows, hopefully someone may be able to decipher it. (Maybe Calga Motors)????

...Big 10-4rr there Overnite...yes you are right regarding the pic of "Calga Motors"...it was as the name suggests,a servo/workshop. I remember at least two bowsers out the front not to many years ago. In the early 'ninety's' a fellow by the name of John Darke operated you guessed it 'Calga Towing' from this location. I remember he had a tidy G89 early Ekabol set up...actually our G88 ended up on its 'hook' after bending a push-rod rocketing thru nearby "Blood alley" (no wasn't me :D).' The Alley' or 'Blood Hill' was a notorious section for obvious reasons. Re- the Ghost pic at Casula...I can remember it as an Ampol Caf

Some more shots of days gone by, the old "Calga Motors". If these walls could talk there would be a few stories and quite a few late nights worked I imagine.

Those "safety" hand rails are pretty recent. I bet all that was there originally was maybe a couple of flower pots.
