AEC taken at the same location as the 2 earlier AECs near Newcastle NSW.

Needs no explanation. The dream of many an earlier operator. Got the lot, homemade mudflaps on the steer, step tanks, sun visor, note the mechanical hand. Taken at Charlestown near Newcastle NSW.

TNT subbies, Knocker and AEC at Yass roadhouse. Notice the small left hand circular mirror on the AEC.

Part of the old Pacific hwy, now abandoned. Another casualty of the freeway was the famous "Oak milk bar", home of the creamiest milk shakes ever.( Not the one at Hexham), the one at Peats ridge near Calga had an atmosphere all on its own).

That's about the lot. There are 4 more that I have put up before on other posts on this forum, but i'll put them up again on Monday hopefully.

Fabulous pics. The first AEC is a very early Mercury, later badged as Monarch mk Vl in Australia (and some other export markets) due to Hastings Deering also being an agent for Mercury cars.
The 2nd one is a mk lll model (Mandator or Mammoth Major) with the later "tin front" replacing the previously exposed radiator. Both with Hasting Deering cabs built onto the factory cowling.

....Re the CALGA MOTORS pics : Your right Overnite, would of been plenty of all night action in that shed. Good detail Lang, the pic in your 'reply 79' shows clearly the old intersection of Peats Ridge Rd & the Pacific Highway, running off to the left. This section of old road is only several hundred metres long & comes to an end where the south bnd on ramp to the 'F3' (M1) dissects it. This was a second later intersection, the original considered to dangerous & located a little to the south. Interesting map Lang particulary the detail in the ''Legend' & some 'scribble' on the reverse side...Thanks for finding it,you got good filing system. ;). Overnite's Reply 80 pic: looking to the south shows what was the very last section of the original Berowra - Calga tollway before it ended & became Peats Ridge Rd. Bridges are over road from Calga village, allowing access via loop to Peats Ridge Rd. Bridge to the right still used off loop. This last divided straight went to 4 lanes undivided & led motorists right into the windy hilly section which became known as 'Blood Alley'. A hazard for traffic coming off freeway conditions. On the northern side of 'Blood Alley',back to one lane each way was the Golden Fleece servo/roadhouse L/H/S nth bnd. (had great burgers) Further up as Overnite alluded to was The 'OAK MILK BAR', very popular :) The freeway as we know in time, was redirected onto new twin bridges over Mooney-Mooney Ck & on to Somersby.

Sorry about the delay posting these last four pics. Been Sidetracked. These have been posted by me before, but here goes. These 4 trucks (3 actually as the 2 Commer pics are the same truck, were all owned by my old friend, now 91, and unfortunately in a nursing home in Burpengary Qld). The first is on the piggyback going across the paddock, then in Alltrans livery with their trailer, in Tennyson St. Parramatta . The Dodge Power Giant, loaded with Kellogs, taken at Seymour Vic., this was my first trip interstate in a truck, when I was 13 years old. The last pic is an AEC Mandator that he owned while subbying for R.H. O'regan, ( which obviously didn't work out too well as he has painted their name out). Photo was obviously taken in 1960, as witnessed by the brand new in Australia, Ford Falcons. Photo was taken in Isabella St Parramatta, ( yes I rode my bike from Mays Hill to Parramatta regularly), especially when I started my apprenticeship in Grose St. Parramatta a few years later at the Hudson / Packard / Rambler dealership.

Detective,

The A.E.C. Mandator on Page 2 does have a hand signal fitted. If you look above and to the front of the drivers door, you will see a shadow, which is a small hand. Almost the same as the old Bedford School Buses used to have.

Come forward to the latest photo of an A.E.C. and you will see it much clearer.

Giddy, thanks, I don't think there's anymore, but if I find any, they'll be here. I do have an old business card of the friend that owned the Commer, Dodge and AEC, if i find it ( after all its only 55 years old),I'll post it here. I'll take you up on the milkshake, my favourite back in the day was chocolate malted with an egg, and a glass of Pepsi, alternating between the two. Sorry if I just made you ill, but it worked for me.
