Fodens in NSW was created by Dave_64
Just re-reading a bit about Fodens. I can vaguely remember that Fodens had a sales/service yard on Newbridge Rd Moorebank (just out of Liverpool, on L/H side heading towards Sydney).

Did they also handle ERF there? Or was that a separate entity with their own dealers etc? Used to see quite a few 'Erfidynes' bopping around the metro area, oddly most I can remember had tippers hanging off the back, although I THINK Swires (Fridgemobile) may have had at least one as a local delivery prime mover?

In a very small nut shell; ERF was created in the early 30,s following a family split with the other Foden directors. There is an Aussie connection and the saga is now the subject of a book. Edwin Foden headed the new company and so they were competitors. From the outset ERF bought in components in the American style while Foden made most in house. In Aus Foden did farily well in the 50's and early 60's with distribution by Diesel Services (more info required) while ERF did better in the late 60's/early 70's

Thanks Guys for the replies.
So, if they were competitors, obviously the dealership I mentioned at Moorebank (NSW), if it was Diesel Parts, would NOT have been handling ERF? So, who were their agents in NSW? Any clues?
I'll have to keep my eye out for that book if it eventuates, as well.

Weren't Diesel Motors at Auburn the Foden/ERF agents at one time?

Diesel Parts? Diesel Motors? I'm not sure myself, could have been either one. But that address at Auburn rings a bell somehow. Maybe they were there BEFORE moving to Moorebank? It (Moorebank) was in a relatively new, at the time, industrial area.
So, going by what's been posted, although more or less in "opposition", both Foden AND ERF did actually reside in the same kennel? Maybe not all that strange, didn't Hastings Deerings when they were on Parramatta RD handle a couple of different makes? Pretty sure that at least one stage they were the AEC agent along with some other make.
As usual, IDSTBC on account of I'm getting vague!

Hasting Deerings were long standing Ford and AEC dealers, possibly others as well.

.
.I only recall Diesel Motors at Parramatta Rd Auburn (L/H side heading into Sydney)
and just up the road from the Locomotive pub.....
Run by the Oneil family at the time........
ERF had a sales & service setup on Woodville Rd Villawood........
Its possible they MAY have moved out of Auburn to Villawood......where
they now sold mostly Cummims / Roadranger powered stuff
Whether they were connected or not i dont know............
.....................Billy.....................

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

The book, which I have a copy of, is THE FEUDING FODEN FAMILY by Allan Littlemore. It is an excellent book, written by someone who had a senior position at Fodens Ltd for 30 years. I bought my copy direct from the author but it can be bought from the Foden Society's on-line shop.
