Hi thanks cemeNTepede Pecenek sounds right but all my searches turned up nothing. Do you know who it was and what connection there was with Oodnadatta? Also do you know of any photos early in its life?
Hi Jimbo i haven't done much on it in the last few months. It will only be a preservation not a restoration. I've replaced bunk and cab mounts, the entire exhaust from the turbo to the stacks including mufflers. Various other mounts bonnet radiator etc. Some wiring tidy up and airlines.
It is pretty untidy inside so there's also plenty of interior work to do to. Cheers Mackme.

Hi all update I rang Peter Pecenek yesterday and he confirmed that his dad bought the SAR new.
He drove it himself for about 5 years pulling triple stock crates and oil exploration equipment.
He also sent me some photos today of it in its prime and is going to hunt up some more. So once again thanks to you all for the info which would be near impossible to track down without this forum and the great information of its members. Cheers.

perhaps as per that page it was the buyer wanting only one horse in his stable.... ie Ansett who have 15 out of the total.... I am sure Swishys persistent delirium effected many people the same way. And perhaps KW had a deal going with the pricing... but what would I know..... other than we all like sweet music.

About the mid 60's we bought a S925 KW with a V6-71 @ 238HP
the price way back wen fir memory twaz 14000 pound and 50% dearer than a petrol powered White @ th@ time
which U could not compare the trucks as a Screemer powered KW would run rings round a old gas guzzler White
@ the time most KW were used for interstate using the mian roads Btween the capital cities
KW were very rarely seen in some country towns and roads
we were required to make pick up or deliveries of dozers etc any where around Vic
we would pull up out side a country town pie shop to grab sum food to eat and wen we reurned to the truck it was not unusal to have a swarm of jokers crawlin all over the KW beast
as many had never seen one B 4
U were certainly king of the road
late 60's we went on to purchase 3 more KW S925 X Ansett Tradins from Kenworth
many mentioned why buy an ol KW with 3/4 million miles on it wen U can buy anew Inter R190
so me ol man told m .... watch this... and went and bought 3 of these old beasts which were ideal for us
the last KW S-925 was traded in on the KW SAR which eye still pedal (1976)

Age prevented me from realising that it was an S model i9n the list and yours is an SAR.
As a fairly young bloke, I remember Trial Bay Haulage getting their first S model to replace the AECs they ran. As the only GM powered trucks in our area,(NSW North Coast), were 6V71 powered NR Macks and the likes, the sight and sound of the S models pulling the tankers up the hill past the RSL in Nambucca was something I do remember.
