Agree Southbound, wonderful record of rigs then, full credit to Pete for taking so many pic's.
So many differences - load binders replacing ropes. Remember washing ropes to get the grit
out of them. Hands red raw from all the rope work. Nothing heavier than a wet tarp!
Lovely trucks from the old country like the Leyland Comet with manifold by the left leg to
keep warm in summer. Still, enjoyed the trips and life on the road. Paul.

I too have enjoyed looking at the oldies and it has given me bad nasty thoughts of what to do and add to Lorry to 'bling' him up a bit more.
I might even think about doing for the Yesteryear Truck Show later this year.

Couldn't agree more.. wonderful photos, looking at the old girls, certainly takes you back.
One thing I notice, is the pride (and I don't know if thats the right word?) - despite many old trucks being bloody rough (my dads certainly were) there was a degree of "this is who i am" about them. Lots of names written on the front, individual paint schemes, the "to and from" destinations, and so on. A proud bunch of truckies saying "yep, I'm a truckie, this is my truck and thats ok."
I think anyway. What says you?
cheers
Rich

Yes Rich, lot of unique color schemes, bull bars, light arrangements etc.
Some easy to identify at night, especially Louisvilles with their shaky head lights.
Saw a Road Boss with "NO FIXED ADDRESS" on the bug deflector.

A good selection of Macks in this bunch

Thanks for sharing with us all
And yes times have changed a lot, it only seems like yesterday almost every truck was a owner driver and a big fleet was maybe ten
Owner drivers are pretty thin on the ground these days

Hi PaulFH Loved the photo of the Jetaway KW I think it was owned by John Whiltshaw who was a subbie for the company.Quite a few of the owner drivers went from MAN to KW back in the 70S, mainly in prime movers as LES (Linehaul Equipment Services ) were updating there fleet of 8series MAN's to the bigger twin steer single drive models The old 8 series were no slouches on the highway but the new twin steer could really corner . I may be wrong as to the owner of the KW pictured another owner was CHOOKY Fowler Names of others escapes me as its been a long time maybe someone may be able to name a few. Swanny
