The double bumper makes it a KM, often fitted with a Detroit 2 stroke. The tandem and twin steer mod was an Aussie thing. Some others might know who did the mods.

Interesting one,
Km series as standard have, double bumper, dual headlamps, full air brakes, wide mudguards.
Kh series as standard have , single bumper , single headlamps, air over hydraulic brakes, wide guards and 10 stud wheels as per the km.
However it was an option for the double bumper on the kh, dealer or factory I'm not sure but my father had one new with that option.
Chances it's got a Gm as mammoth said, fitted by Detco or similar judging by the dual exhaust pipes and single air intake ( factory job had twin Clyde Farr intake).
*So is it a km with the single headlamps fitted rather than the standard duals to allow for extra cooling, hence the extra upper grille ??
*Or is it a kh with the optional double bumper??
Just when you think the bedford rule book is sorted out, along comes a curve ball like this one.
Great looking truck .
Would love to know where it is now.

I have a review somewhere for the "new"big Bedfords.............and I think GMH added the double bumpers to the 381s and 466s to make them look different, and a change to the petrol models.I remember Luya Julius converted KGL 300 petrols into 8 wheelers for the bulk sugar run from northern rivers to Brisbane .......when they could handle that, they added the dog trailers that had previously been towed by AECs.The AECs had been built from bits, and some of the bits were transferred to the Bedfords....LJs were an old family company ,and owned bulk real estate all over Brisbane ........like many other old transport companies of that time.

I remember years ago when on a holiday on the Gold Coast I saw a Luya Julius Mack stopped at the lights. Some bright spark had a stick strapped to the back of the bulldog with a savaloy hanging on string in front of the dog to make it pull harder.

That pic and caption (#19774) with the 8 wheeler Bedford/AMCO, what was the deal there?
Must admit had never even heard of them until they appeared here.
Had seen a few Bedford cabbed "specials", but not that particular make.
