Ah,
maybe because 42 is the answer to the ultimate question?
(What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything?)

Perhaps we have inadvertently stumbled across a photo of the ultimate truck?

Easy to see they’re photoshopped if you check the back windows through the windscreen.
Poor old LAD cab mounts would not like all that tin work.

Not for this blackduck.
If there were any around that could be restored I'd have one in an instant. Love the LAD Beaver/Hippo/Octopus but owners tended to work them right into the ground.
That photochopper was pretty keen, moved the axle so the turntable looked right. Fuel fillers were a bit of a slip up.

No mate. Typical for trucks of that era, diff ratio options were 38, 48 and 58 mph.
There was also a “bus” diff ratio which was bloody quick. Dad imported a crown wheel and pinion and we installed it. Speedo still read from the box but that thing hauled away from the car at 70mph. Only for a day or two though, way too quick for those days.
Pinion was almost same diameter as the crownwheel. Hub ratio was approx 3:1.

Swishy, we know the answer, but what is the question . . . ?

The number 42 is, in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything", calculated by an enormous supercomputer named Deep Thought over a period of 7.5 million years. Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is.

I bought a Hippo with an extended cab and roofline similar to that from the DCA at Brisbane airport,at the same time they were selling the Thornycrofts.......Hippo and bogie float.....got the hippo for $1800,but missed out on the float by a big margin....Hunter Bros, the long time brisbane garbo s also had a Hippo with the cab extended that used to shift their Komatsu 155s ..It was quite common to see a AEC or leyland with a sleeper tacked on the back........wernt no stupid rules in those days, people were realistic, not the eggheads running the show today.
