Had my Acco for about 5 months and finally got a start, my truck must have been a poverty pack, lol not even a tacho, I drove home , with no speedo, no fuel gauge or hand brake, it’s about a 10” maybe 12 and it must have been out of adjustment, oh and the hand brake light didn’t work, I pulled up at swanhill and I pulled up the hand brake. my mate had a smoke, and he drove the car home following me home, we took off and about half an hour I needed a call of nature , I pulled up and went and to pull the hand brake on and guess what.... it was on already, oops , so i worked out I used abit over 100 litres and done 280 kms , so the old 345 petrol engine was just about the hungriest I have ever seen. So I got a tacho in yesterday, and got a full compliment of gauges to go in , and I started on the mud guards should be finished maybe tomorrow they maybe a tad low , 60mm from the top of the type to the tyres, o don’t think I will be 4x4 in the mud, the gap looks even all the way around so that’s what counts lol

I used to get around 6 miles a gallon with a 345 D1610 4x4,carrying a small drott (BTD 6) or dirt,,and I also had a 1840 tandem butterbox tipper with a 345 ,and caryying about 10-12 ton of dirt (or more I guess ) around 4.....fitted a v6/53 to the acco ,and didnt get any better milage ,but brown diesel was half the price of petrol then....I recall when Wran?put the tax on fuel ,jumped from 8c/l up to 16 overnight in Novemebr 1974.

Mate had a 510 tilt tray with a 345 on gas. 2 kilometres to the litre. No a lot of profit.

The local brickworks had a fleet of v8 petrol ACCOs ,and one lone R600 Flintstone with a Tadano crane that used to tow a dog....They had the ACCOs for many years ,so many the chassis were bent like bananas .The manger used to live next door ,as kids we used to play at the brickworks ,sometimes we would stick our fingers in the gears as they went round in the brick presses.Chicken ,if you went quick enough ....Anyhoo ,before the ACCOs they had all diesel Albions ,Chieftains and Reivers....so they went from diesel to petrol......figure that out.

Hi,

if you are replacing the small square indicator light assembles, i.e. 'Park Brake', can I have them? :)

RT,

no worries, I was after the squares one between the gauges. We have Park Brake and Brake Fail lights on our vehicles and we found out the Acco use the same so always keep an eye out for Accos that don't need them any more.

Thanks.
