Brocky45 wrote: I love that Ford ute in the last picture.. What year is it?? Ford used that grille in 1956 up here in the States.

not sure of the exact year but it is mid to late 1950's here as well

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

Brocky

Australia followed USA pretty closely in their models and styling for the great majority of vehicles. The "new" model usually came out about 12 months after the release in USA. We usually did not have as big a choice of engines as that offered on the US models.

Mainline Utes - 55 had straight chrome strip, first OHV 272 V8
56 in picture had slight curve in side chrome strip
57 had strip up over top of front guard, sometimes called a BJX
58-59 Star Model. star in grille, longer side strip similar to 56
As best can remember, Paul.

Pretty good, really only cosmetic changes.
Think the 55 had a US 272 until Australian production caught up.
Great old workhorse, had a 57 and 59 over the years.

We don'tmind seeing a classic truck, well presented and on display in period correct attire. It would be hard to find a truckie today that could fit tarps that well as shown in the pic.

Thanks everyone for your replys.. I have been told that the Star Grille, in the Slim Dusty movie, was Canadian and you folks used it on the 55-56 bodies in 58 & 59.
