Did the black , red and yellow striped flinstone Mack park his truck near the caravan park in Berrigan .... a while ago, 20 or 30 years?

Quite right Ratty, owned or drove trucks which were affordable. Not everyone could have a 1418 Benz,
R 190 Inter or B61 Mack. Drove a new AB 160 tray for a while, then an AA 180 like the red one in the photos
on stock work. All sorts of rigs in the country areas, AT4 and LAD cab 1016 Dodges, F 600 and 700 Fords.
Leyland Beavers and even a cab over Bedford like the white one shown. 16 ft tray and pulled a 16 ft dog.
Quite a circus, had to unhook to load then recouple. Every colour light fitted, could see it coming for miles.
It was his, paid for and did the job even though motor replacements were frequent.
Invited to have a drive of an AB 184 with the 345, Rolls Royce compared to the lazy old 180.
By 1966 started to see the better trucks, Atkinsons, Kenworths, Inters with diesel power and even a Deutz.
Applied for a job on R model Macks but knocked back as no Mack experience. Few days later saw one of
their rigs with the right steer wheel wobbling badly. Thought to self, well can put a spider wheel on straight.
Grateful to have a truck to drive and did the best to look after it and the boss's business.

Yes Mairjimmy, they were about. Those WW2 Fords were amazing, well tuned they ran like tops.
Lift the bonnet in the dark and sparks everywhere from the old plug leads.
First stock crate of chicken wire and a few lengths of 4 x 2 totally incredible. Even got the side of a
portable sheep ramp hanging on the side. Second trailer and crate similar to ones we used.
Spiken Engineering in Warrnambool still make them. Thanks for posting, Paul.

Paul , I carted stock for 20-25 years on and off for a mob in Deniliquin he was my brother in law, I had my own truck for 6 years and went back to being a driver, I never made any money because you put everything you earn back into it , our sheep crates all had the sides of the portable sheep race on the side-saddle the truck and the bottom went underneath it and were made from 25 foot ladders.
Make Jimmy the flinstone wasn’t parked there every night but most times when I was going to wodonga to get cattle I’d see it, some times in the day and other times at night, I think it had a tipper on it .

Just after the war, my old man had a Marmon-Herrington version of those old Fords. He used to cart cord wood to Concord hospital for the boiler. He then moved on to cart cement from Kandos to the Warragamba dam during construction. He told us he loved the old thing, but had to add a second radiator to stop it boiling on Mt Victoria.
At the foot of Mt Vic, the old timers would stop and drag a sleeper behind which was chained at both ends to the combing rails. The chain was just long enough so if they stalled or missed a gear the truck would roll back until the sleeper chocked the rear wheels on either the tray or trailer, which ever truck it was.

I remember when Pa drove the old Morris Cowley up Bulli Pass and it stopped for what ever reason my big sister had to jump out and put the brick behind the rear wheel.
