I think it may be a Thornycroft, either a Nubian or a Big Ben with a home-made cab. The steering wheel and instruments look Thornycroft. I am fairly sure the hand-throttle lever on the side of the engine is Thornycroft also.

I've put my best foot forward,

I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Morris, I'm thinking the lever on the engine cover is an auto box controller.

It's a Thornycroft Nubian Major 6x6 fire truck chassis with a Cummins 903 engine and Allison gearbox. These were supplied in chassis form to various fire truck manufacturers who would have built the cab and bodywork.
