I have a much abused set of tyre levers made from car springs.
They were dad’s. When he began his apprenticeship in 34, the local spring works made each apprentice a set of tyre levers and these are the ones I still bash about.
Made from about 40mm wide broken leaf springs, with centre bolt holes!
Mayne Spring works was the company, Abbotsford Road, Mayne.
I got to know the owner , Arthur Lunney when I was pretty young. A giant of a man, always in a leather apron.
Later years it became Lunney-Kilner spring works, and then just Kilners.
