Semi-trailers have been around for a long long time. The first recorded is this Winton then followed by others. We have seen a few before.

Thornycroft produced a semi trailer in 1898 using a purpose built prime mover and there might have been some earlier ones in France. Fruehauf claimed they were the first - in 1915 and used existing vehicles as prime movers.

1898 Thornycroft. A huge improvement on the Winton of only 2 years earlier.



And the Northern Territory fuel tanker road trains were beaten by about 100 years.
