The Bedford is the O type, distinguished by the shorter bonnet, a result of the cab being pushed forward to get more weight on the steer. The cab looks like the English one, difference in the doors is that the factory one has a curve on the bottom corner whereas the GMH one has a slash.
Great pic of the AEC/Associated Daimler. This would have been at the very end of the alliance between the two outfits. My similar truck is a 1928 ex Sydney street flusher on solids so guessing this one would be a lighter one around the same date.

Street parade scenes in Melbourne during WW2.

The Bedfords belong to the Footscray City Council. (FCC)

Ford Marmon Herrington gun tractor. Hudson stores in Bourke st , used to have the Marmon Herrington brass nomenclature plates , they purchased a lot of disposals equipment after the war. The store was run by two eccentric brothers, you had to talk your way into the back rooms , it was a Melbourne icon, all gone.

Fire appliance,  not sure of its origin.

Sydney city council used this unusual 1939 Ford truck with only front wheel drive. The front axle is a Marmon Herrington axle, no rear axle is driven.

Great photo from the days when the garbage collectors used to come into your back yard, take the bins, carry and empty them into the truck  then return them to the back yard. If you were lucky they might even put the lid on properly on the empty bin.

You would have to pay people $5,000 a week to do that job now.

An ‘old currency’ note, or a few longnecks in a paper bag ensured excellent service.

Yep, last collection before Xmas. If you forgot, the next collection would see your bin lid accidently bent.

The PROV caption is saying these scenes were at the West Melbourne rail yards.

These are U.S. Army Chevrolet 4x4 Yankee Joe trucks sitting on Victorian Railways flat wagons. The car, as far as I can work out, is a 1942 Studebaker, it is RHD , so it would be a Australian delivered car. The American Forces in Australia (USAFIA) used a large number of Australian assembled vehicles - they even had some CMP trucks, blitz .

Keep these piccies rolling morrisguy, they're great.

As for the Christmas bonus for the dunny man, that was always honoured by my father in England, except it was the dustman who got the bonus . . . we had civilised indoor toilets!

Been a farm boy I never saw a dunny truck, home delivered bread, milk or any other such thing
Water tasted like crap anywhere but home as all I new was rain water with inches of moss on the tank and a few dead animals no doubt

Same, but living on top of the mountains in a high rainfall area the water is really good, and concrete tanks are a big step forward.
