The Chevs with cut away front guards used to be very common once .
Yes , even right up to the late 1990s , the Canadian and US Lend Lease Chevs were a dime a dozen. I could have bought some nice ones in the $300 TO $500 range. Then the internet came along, and everything changed.

Quote from Mike Cecil, the author of many books on Australian army vehicles.
"Records indicate 66 AEC Matador tractors were received during the Second World War, along with 7 AEC Dorchester ACVs.
The tractors were classed a medium artillery tractors and were used for towing the 3.7 inch HAA gun and 155 mm Medium artillery. They were superseded by the US military Mack 6x6 artillery tractor.
Most of the ACVs remained in service post-war, being disposed on in the late 1950s and early 1960s."
There was a Australian edition of the maintenance manual .

Alot more Matadors about than that ......possibl a lot came here after Malaya 1950..........I scrapped the remains of five back in the 1990s ......Bobby Addison had a lot of Matador chassis and axles etc ,including complete trucks less cabs .............cabs were wood framed and bits of tin screwed on ........didnt last in the open......Matadors were popular with banana farms with no cab and an open tray

3 weeks from Darwin to Sydney, you could walk faster. Then again they were Matadors so you probably could!

If you zoom in on the Diamond T bumpers they have names on them
I wonder if Johanssen's trucks were named by him or if they had the names on them when he got them ?
