Wow.
Post #259787 seems to show a Vic Railways twin cab R series Bedford.
Never seen one of them before.
The extended cab may have been done at the Victorian Railways Workshops at Newport. The facility must have been large and busy in its hey day, just going by the photos of the place.

As far as I remember, in the suburbs, VR didn't have a door delivery parcel service, you had to travel to the train station ro pick up your parcel . VR did have parcel vans (trains) that ran on the Suburban train lines. They shut down the parcel service which was a pity because it was a useful alternative to road parcel delivery. They handled bulky items too.
Yes they had many maintenance trucks ,and they ran bus services

Just on the topic of Railways having their own trucks, what happened with the NSWGR' s grandiose scheme of rural distribution? I can recall they built two huge complexes at Tamworth and one I used to pass all the time at Cootamundra, stocked it with blue and white body trucks as well as pie carts, mostly of Japaneasy origin?
What happened to them?? Dave _64

I know many years back a TV crew did a story on excess trucks parked up brand new not registered at the Everly Car Sheds. If department's did not spend their budgets they were reduced hence all these trucks
