Dumb Butt Yankee question!! Is what your are calling a dunny an out door toilet??? Up here in the states we called them an outhouse.. I lived in the country, but they were 1 or 2 seat building permanently built over a large hole in the ground and the solids digested and the water just seeped away into the ground. No Idea what the "city folks" did?????

This is Brisbane. Right up to 60's before fully sewered. No rear access so the dunny man had to come into the backyard and be bitten by your dog.
Most early town designs had narrow lanes down the back for easy access so when you visit older areas even in country towns the street layout is normal street, lane, normal street etc

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Oh schit, who would want to restore a dunny truck? Not even the men with the flat hats would want to do that!

This is how high density housing was built all over the world in the centre of any large town or city. Although it is a present day photo you can see the system of main streets and lanes for the night carts to collect from toilets against the back fence. Looks like they have all their wheelie bins in the lane - no way a truck could get down there, how are they emptied?
Here is the squalor of Liverpool in UK late in the 1960's - yes 1960's. At least mum and the kids do not look like they are starving. With a tiny lane for the dunny can collectors to struggle down to empty the toilets backing onto the fence. No wonder they were happy to pay ten pounds to emigrate to Australia or Canada.

Brocky if you had an outdoor shower where I live, you would only be showering six months of the year, and nobody would be able come anywhere near you for the other six.
