hello all

awesone site i have spent hours reading and looking at pics you have all uploaded

i am looking for some pics and info on a coal carting company called western gold operating out of wallerawang power station ,sharbon open cut, angus place on private road, invincible open cut and more

my father first worked for them in the 80,s there office was in lidsdale house ,lidsdale
most of the fleet i had seen were MAN (i have one pic i will upload on the weekend) but here is a mack that im very positive that was one of theres before going to aztec

my father bought a mack (plate N.S.W MDR-172) from western gold with mack runnning gear minus the sleeper though , he continued on as a contractor for western gold up until its collapse and went to mountain bulk haulage

my father past away last year from cancer and after rifling through his meager belongings to try and find some sort of photo history it turned up very little of the past

i am particulary interested in western gold trucks and contractors working in that period

i remember 2 leyland marathons -Dubbed the leyland brothers
many MANs
there were also two 1418 benz in white blue color not sure if they contracted to western gold though

any help greatly apreciated

I seem to remember some western gold trucks operating out of the Marulan through to Port Kembla area. Can't remember if they were Macks or Road Boss'. They may have been Aztec by then in old colours.

found one of the leyland brothers!

by bizare chance i was talking to a driver that comes into port botany for a pick up told him my story/background/looking for history, turned out he was one of the western gold leyland brothers(Col turnbull)
his father was the other driver
unfortunate he has no pictures of the marathons

but the info he gave me was alot of what i was looking for about the company and mountain bulk was formed by ex western gold workers

I think these photos were taken near Marulan.
Mack F model. Maybe Ken Archer's.

Graeme Kenny.s International Transtar.

Western Gold had a couple of these R models with Maxidyne engines but ordeed them with multi ratio gearboxes in place of the 6 speed box. Barry Sky also had a R model working in Western Gold's colors.

Ford Lousieville

White at Lithgow

Atkinson. Maybe Les Vardy from East Corrimal.

SAR Kenworth with quad axle trailer. I remember looking under one of Western Gold's subbie's quad axle trailers and their was an air tank that was very large to supply air only to the first axle that had 6 airbags. As the scalies only had 6 portable scales an overloaded truck could take weight off the drive axles and trailer by inflating the air bags to maximum air pressure and avoiding a fine unless they were escorted to the nearest weigh bridge.
