On the NSW State Records [Archives Outside Wordpress website ] recently there was an interesting item about 2 Dennis Light 4[ch8242] fire engines sent to Darwin in 1941 & 1942. There's a bit of info in the short article (url link below) From Lidcombe to Darwin: NSW Fire Engines enlist in WWII and they note that R J (Lou) Cowan from the Museum of Fire at Penrith advised that the Dennis' finished up in Alice Springs in the 1950s.

Bugly's truck is a later model than these.

The two 1939 Dennis Light Fours that were decommissioned from Lidcombe and despatched to Darwin were the two original fire trucks which started the Darwin Fire Brigade in 1941/1942. The truck I am restoring (see Bigcam's link above) was the next fire truck into the NT, and the first ever NEW one. It is a 1949 Dennis F1.

As soon as the new F1 arrived in Darwin at the end of 1950, one of the Light 4's was refurbished and sent to Alice Springs as the front-line unit. This supplemented a Ford truck with a tank on the back, which towed a trailer-pump. The second Light 4 later ended up in Alice also.
